Die Porte de la Citadelle wurde im 16./17. Jahrhundert errichtet, um die Verteidigung der Stadt zu stärken. Sie war damals von vier Bastionen umgeben und durch Wassergräben von der bereits bestehenden Porte de la Craffe getrennt.
