Das Castillo wurde mit viel Aufwand renoviert, nachdem es im Bürgerkreig schwerste Schäden erliiten hat. Von außen sieht es fast wie neu aus, innen sind nach ziemliche Ausbesserungsarbeiten erforderlich. Das Fort hat eine bewegte Vergangenheit hinter sich, kein Wunder bei dieser exponierten Lage. Außerdem hielt sich hier Isabella I. (die katholische) bis zu ihrem Tode auf.
