Hotel City Ancona

Hotel City Ancona (1993) is ideally situated in the city centre, in an uninspiring neighbourhood near the most important square Piazza Cavour and not far from the harbour. It is a rather characterless business hotel where it is good to stay for 2 or 3 nights. From Ancona’s central train staton it is reachable by bus 1 or ¼ within about 10 minutes; bus stop Pizza Cavour. All the 39 rooms are soundproofed and provided with bathroom, radio, Sat TV, minibar, phone and air conditioning. The airconditiong did not work during our stay, so I cannot tell you anything about its effectiveness and whether it is soundless or not. The hotel has a parking which is not free of charge. Ancona is an up coming touristic city I think, but as such not very known at the moment I suppose. According to the touristic map it has about 40 historic monuments and there is a large shopping street Corso Garibaldi. Arriving at the Airport you can take the bus or train to Ancona Central station. Be aware that the train station Castelferreti, just at the opposite of the airport (a three minutes walk), is NOT mentioned at the website of Trenitalia although several trains a day leave for Ancona v.v.!

We occupied room 318 which was very large and impeccable clean. Although we booked a double, we got a triple with a large double bed with firm mattresses, and a single. The bathroom is rather large too, but has a small shower cubicle with a good working shower. There are a toilet, a bidet and a wash stand and all kinds of amenities, even shoe polish. Our room viewed a busy street with much traffic, but the windows are double glazed and the traffic noise is not too disturbing. The TV has only Italian channels with the exception of one German channel of poor quality. There is a mini bar with diferent kinds of drinks at reasonable prices. Near the entrance there is a large linen cupboard.

For Italian standards the breakfast is very acceptable: two kinds of rolls, cheese and meat products, cereals, jam, honey, etc. There is a terrace too. The hotel has no restaurant.

Staff is kind and helpful; check in and check out went very smoothly. Staff did not know that there is a train connection with the airport.
