- Established in 1639, the construction of Shimogoten inn was ordered and financed by a feudal lord of Tokugawa clan in Kishu, Tokugawa Yorinobu, a. K. a. Nanryu in. The name Shimogoten was also officially bestowed by the daimyo, and its rich traditions and heritages have been preserved to this day.
