We stayed in Cracowdays Apartments (CA) from 18 – 22 of March 2008 and had an excellent time. Although CA won a Tripadvisor’s award of belonging to the 10 best Inns & B&Bs in Europe, it is neither a Hotel (as it is advertised on some websites) nor a B&B, but a very good apartment. CA has four rooms on the first floor of a building situated in a quiet street, just within the inner city centre. It is a ten minutes walk to Kraków´s most important square called Rynek G£ówny from where you can visit all interesting places and shops in the surrounding area. The building has no elevator, so the apartments are less accessible for disabled people. The rooms do not have a telepohone, but there is free use of internet in the hallway, which I consider to be more important. You can also burn your pictures on DVD there for free. The only minor negative point is the way in which you have to pay for the first night in advance. I was referred to a link on Cracowdays´ website to make my payment of PLN220, 00 (about 61, 60 euro) through a pay-office. My credit-card was blocked for 24 hours after three unsuccessful trials. The only possible way offered by Cracowdays was a transfer direct to their bank-account as credit-card payment was not accepted. This means an additional cost of 18, 40 euro for one night´s payment. You may assume that an international operating organisation accepts credit-card payment, especially when prepayment is required. This seems possible after the first of May 2008 when the second floor has come into use. Nevertheless we once hope to return to beautiful Kraków and to stay at Cracowdays again.

  • The rooms are spacious, double glazed and have beds with very good mattresses. As is usual for apartments, they do not have their own kitchen or fridge, these are communal. You can have different kinds of coffee and tea there for free and you are allowed to try the wodka. The rooms do not have air-conditioning, so it might be a little hot during summer. In May 2008 four rooms on the second floor will come into use. They are all air-conditioned, have flat screen or plasma TV (I am not sure which of the two) and there is a communal breakfast room. According to several websites the price will be increased by about 10%. The bathroom is rather spacious too and has an excellent shower. You will find soap, towels and toilet paper which is more than in many other apartments in Europe.

  • We were welcomed by the manager, a very kind and very professional young lady who can tell you everything you should know about Kraków in general and about restaurants and public houses in particular. Advised by her, we ate three times in Restaurant Nostalgia (Ul. Karmelicka 10) which offers you an excellent meal at a reasonable price (about 40, 00 euro for two persons, wine included). For breakfast you are referred to Del Papa in Ul. Sw. Tomasza 6 where you can choose from 5 or 6 different breakfasts (for instance a continental breakfast at PLN 20, 00 which is about 5, 60 euro). The manager can also order a cab that will bring you from the airport right to the CA at PLN 70, 00 (about 19, 80 euro). Payment can be made to CA. Mind that you always pay in zlotys in Kraków, for instance the same taxi drive can cost up to 25, 00 euro when you don’t pay in zloty currency.
