The Antica Olivaia farmhouse lies a few kilometers from the enchanting hilltop town of Orvieto in Umbria and this 17th century stone country house is nestled in the middle of a UNESCO protected biosphere where animals roam freely and where olive trees have thrived for hundreds of years. This quaint bed and breakfast offers its guests a relaxing farm stay along with breathtaking views of Orvieto literally floating atop its ancient tufo rock formation with its imposing cathedral dominating the surrounding countryside and three diverse regions. In fact, Orvieto itself is at a crossroads between three of the most beautiful regions in central Italy – Umbria, Lazio and Tuscany – and this charming, six room country inn is the ideal point from which to discover the extraordinary Italian countryside. Agriturismo Antica Olivaia farmhouse offers 6 spacious guest rooms in the main house all with private bathrooms, Wi-Fi, central heating (2 with aircon) and lots of hot water from our solar panels. A lovely outdoor pool with loungers and parasols are offerred exclusively to only our guests staying at the farmhouse. The original layout of the main house has been preserved as well as the 2 large fireplaces, terracotta tiled floors, wooden beamed ceilings, large veranda and even the door handles and lintels were left intact. All rooms have spectacular views either overlooking the pool and gardens or the Umbrian & Tuscan countryside and beyond. For those who love history and art, the medieval and Renaissance towns and museums are limitless and all are within a 10 to 60 minute drive. Rome and Florence can easily be reached by a regional train or by car and are both excellent one day trips. The Orvieto train station is only 10 minutes away from Antica Olivaia with quick connections to major cities. For those who love nature, you need not even leave the farmhouse, which stretches out over 7 hectares (circa 17 acres) of fertile land, forests, 700 olive trees and a vineyard. If you do choose to go out and beyond, the Alviano WWF bird oasis is nearby as well as many mountain trekking routes around the house. Truffle hunts can also be organized in the forest behind our house with a hunter and his dogs (depends on season). For sports lovers, mountain bikes and e-bikes can be rented nearby and our swimming pool is only 2 steps away. Professional biking routes with a guide and a few water sports (including boating on Lake Bolsena) are all within a close distance. For spa and relaxation lovers, several famous thermal baths and spas are located nearby. The Antica Olivaia farmhouse is located only fifteen minutes from the main “autostrada” or highway which connects Florence to Rome. From this base, a myriad of medieval towns and enchanting villages are located within easy reach including Civita di Bagnoregio, Bolsena, Todi, Città della Pieve, Montefalco, Spoleto, Perugia, Assisi and Montepulciano.

GPS Coordinates Latitude: 42.774959872259515 Longitude: 12.17161774635315 By Car from Florence or Rome – A1 Autostrada Take Autostrada A1 going south from Florence or north from Rome. Exit the A1 at Orvieto. After the toll booth, turn right towards Orvieto Scalo. Go straight through a small roundabout with a shopping center called Porta d’Orvieto/COOP. Continue on and when you reach the large roundabout of Orvieto Scalo take the first exit to your right following the sign that says “Ciconia/Ospedale” (there is also a reserved right side lane for that turn off). Go straight across a roundabout, over the bridge and then pass 3 small roundabouts always going straight across following signs for Todi and Colonetta di Prodo (SS 79bis). You will pass a TAMOIL gas station on your right. Drive circa 2 km. and take the fork to your left downhill following the blue sign S. Bartolomeo / Padella. Drive for approx. 2.5 km. and after passing a group of houses (Padella town), turn left at a small intersection indicated by a sign that reads “San Bartolomeo” and a wooden sign that says “Antica Olivaia” (carefully gauge the kilometers travelled and this will help). Drive another 3.5 km and then the asphalted road will turn to gravel (you’ll see a little shrine on your right) and right after that it turns to asphalt again and you will see us right in front of you coming down the curve.

Because of the great views and with so much to see and do around you, there are no televisions in any of the rooms.
Gastronomie im Hotel
For foodies, goat cheeses, pecorino, ricotta, olive oil and wine tastings can be organized within easy reach of our farm. Local products can also be purchased there and vacuum packed. The extra virgin olive oil produced by Antica Olivaia comes exclusively from our olive groves (mono-orchard) with no pesticides utilized thus it is of a very high standard. This “green gold” can be purchased by our guests directly on site packed in aluminum tins – 250 ml, 500 ml, and 1 liter quantities – that can be easily packed in a suitcase. As we say, life is too short to eat badly; therefore we would be delighted to share our favorite local eateries and favorite dishes with you. We can book trattorias, pizzerias and restaurants for you that we personally know and love. These options are nearby either in Orvieto’s old town (15-20 minute drive) and in the little village below our farmhouse – Ciconia (10-15 minute drive). Some Orvieto specialties that you can try at various restaurants in the area are: Orvieto Classico wine, umbrichelli (a local type of thick spaghetti made only with flour & water), black truffles (scorzone), handmade pecorino cheese, ricotta, goat cheese, porcini mushrooms, boar, rabbit, guinea fowl, Umbrian salamis, local beans and lentils, pigeon and saffron.
